#175- Stars and Stripes foreva

Last weekend my parents hosted Cocktails & Dreams: the Hamptons of the Midwest.

The spread of food available was quite plentiful; my Grandpa summed it up best when he said he “felt like a bear in a strawberry patch”.  I tried to help set up and cook as much as I could, but one thing I knew for certain was that damnit it if I was going to let another Independence Day pass without expressing my patriotism via the culinary arts.

I made an American flag cake.

Thanks again for having us. The eats were great, but the kids were the real stars of the show!

You’ll be happy to know that when we went to eat the leftovers the next day the raspberries were “fuzzy”. Yum.

Next time we’re going to eat it instead of saying “it looks too pretty to eat”.

SheDoggs – I think you meant to say that the Loyster was the star of the show. It’s ok, it gets confusing with a big family. 🙂

This cake is my favorite part of the Fourth of July.

I know just how you feel. I drank a whole bunch of beer to show my patriotism. I stayed in the sun too long and got all “red.” Did shots of Jameson until I turned “white.”Finally, I choked on a beer tab and turned “blue.” It really made for a good day!
